The Internet is undoubtedly one of the most effective tools that make our survival easy in this digital world. With a wide majority of audience worldwide, the internet is a humungous platform. Even the mere thought of surviving without the Internet connection for a single day (or even a minute) makes us restless! Isn’t it?

There a several times when your device is connected to the wifi, but you cannot access anything on the web browser? Yes, we all have struggled with the ‘wifi connected no internet’ problem!

There are several reasons why you might be experiencing this specific issue on your computer. Some of the most common reasons for no Internet access include outdated drivers, physical tampering in wired connections, weak signal strength, and others.

If you’re one of those “victims” of the router not connecting to the internet problem, we have several methods that you can use to troubleshoot the problem.

Solutions to Fix WiFi Connected But No Internet Issue

Here are some effective solutions for the WiFi Connected but no Internet issue

1. Reboot Your WiFi Router

One of the most common yet useful methods to resolve any hardware related issue is restarting your WiFi router. Or you should try rebooting your device to check whether it worked. There is a huge possibility that rebooting the wifi router and your machine will work wonders and allow you to reaccess the Internet connection.

If this doesn’t work for you, you can move to our next solution.

2. Acquire a new Ip Address with neth Winsock reset

Another technique to resolve your modem not connecting to internet problem is that you reset a new IP Address or we can request a new Ip Address from the router.

When your device gets connected to a particular network it will request an Ip Address from the local router. It takes the help of DHCP for this and the router has a bunch of Ip Addresses available so network device doesn’t conflict with each other.

To reset your network connection you can try to simply reboot your device. You should not close and open the lid of your notebook, but instead, go to start and reboot it entirely. But if this doesn’t do the trick then we will try to manually reset the network:

  • Firstly you need to press Windows key +X on the keyboard
  • Now choose command (admin) or PowerShell (admin)
  • Then you need to enter the following command: netsh int ip reset
  • Then simply reboot your computer

We have successfully reset the TCP/IP protocol with this command. After you reboot your system you should be able to connect to the internet again.

3. Setting a fixed DNS server

Most problems that arise are DNS server related, to resolve the issue we can try to set a fixed DNS server. Usually, when you connect to a network connection, the router will tell your device which DNS server to use. If we set a DNS server statically we will tell our computer to always use that particular server.

You can safely alter this setting. After you have set a static DNS server, you can still have access to the internet and on other networks without any issue.

  • Simply right-click on your Wireless network icon available in the taskbar
  • Then choose Network & Internet Settings
  • Tap on Wi-Fi option or <network name>
  • Choose Properties
  • Then Select Internet Protocol version 4 or TCP/IPv4 and select Properties
  • You need to check the box “Use the following DNS-Server“
  • Simply enter for preferred DNS-Server that is 8.8.8.8 and for alternate DNS-Server 8.8.4.4
  • No Click on OK and close the other windows.

Now you can check your internet connection again.

The DNS Server address 8.8.8.8 and the alternate one are the IP Addresses from the DNS server from Google

4. Update Network Drivers

Another workaround to fix the “router not connecting to the internet” issue on Windows 10 is to update the network adapter drivers. To do this, you should follow these quick steps:

Firstly you are supposed to tap the Start menu icon and then type “Device Manager” in the search box, and hit Enter.

Now, Double-tap on the “Network Adapters” in the Device Manager window, to see the expanded list of options.

You need to right-click on the network drivers and select the “Update Driver” option from the context menu.

Now, simply follow the on-screen instructions to update the network adapter drivers that are installed on your device.

Once you are done, reboot your device to check whether you can access the WiFi.

5. Antivirus or Other Security App

Antivirus software is notorious to cause internet problems since the beginning. To get your internet working you should disable your antivirus and other security apps like malware temporarily. After doing this you can check if it resolves the Wi-Fi connected but no internet problem. If it does the trick, you know where you need to look next. If not then continue with the next method.

At this point, we would also recommend you to run a complete or full antivirus and Malwarebytes scan to ensure your computer is not infected with something dangerous that’s causing this error.

6. Use Built-in Troubleshooter

If the internet connection is fine on ISP’s end and is working on at least one of the connected devices, then there is a chance that there is a problem with the Wi-Fi adapter. This can be easily resolved with the inbuilt troubleshooter that comes with Windows and Macs.

You should right-click on the network icon available in the taskbar and then select ‘Troubleshoot problems’. Windows will automatically look for network issue and resolve them. If it is not able to fix it then it will at least let you know what the problem is. Then, you can simply search for the solution online or watch a tutorial over YouTube.

7. Check Modem Lights

It is also possible that there might be an issue with your internet connection instead of the devices connected. Check the WAN light on the router and make sure it’s blinking to confirm. And ensure the WAN light is not constantly on or completely off.

Ideally, the DSL lights are usually ON or green in few cases, and the Wi-Fi indicator lights always blink. If you are unsure how to check it, you can directly contact your ISP’s customer care service and confirm the ongoing internet issue. You should ask them how much time will it take to fix the problem.

Wrapping Up: Wi-Fi Connected But No Internet Access

As mentioned, there no particular answer to the Wi-Fi-connected but no internet issue. The above tips and tricks should be able to resolve most of the software related problems. However, if the problem is with hardware like a damaged network card or router/modem then you should contact a technician.
