  • Registry editor

Let us first learn how to customize the context menu of Windows 10 with the help of the registry editor. 

  1. Go to the left-hand side of the screen.
  2. On the upper-left screen of the desktop, left-click on the search box.
  3. In the search box, type ‘Run’ or just press the Windows key and R which is an easy command for this action.
  4. Now, the Run icon will appear. Left-click on it.
  5. Pressing the Run icon will take you to the new windows of ‘Run’.
  6. From the ‘Open:’ option, type the command “REGEDIT”, with double-quotes.
  7. Now on the lower end of the screen of the run window, click on the OK button.
  8. This will open the new ‘Registry editor’ window on your screen.
  9. Left-click on the computer icon which appears on the upper-left side of the registry window.
  10. In this icon, there will be an ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT’ folder, double click on it.
  11. Within the same ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT’ folder, you will find a folder named ‘*’, double click and open it.
  12. Within the folder ‘*’ you will have another folder named ‘Shellex’, double click on it.
  13. There will be another folder inside the Shellex folder with ‘ContextMenuHandlers’, open it.

  1. The menu will show an option of ‘New’ which will open another option named ‘Key’.
  2. In the ‘Key’ folder, enter the name of the action or item you wish to see on the right-click pop up.
  3. In case you want to delete any item, left-click on the item and press the delete key.
  4. Now, left-click on the item you have created and click on the ‘Default’ option of the registry editor on the right side.
  5. After, click on the ‘Modify’ option which will open an ‘Edit String window’.
  6. Under the value data option, create a code unique to the option you have added.
  7. Click OK and you are done!
