  1. Click on the windows key and type for ‘device manager’ in the search box. Click on the very first result that appears on the result list.
  2. Scroll the page down until you find the ‘keyboard’ option and click on it to expand it further.
  3. It displays the name of the keyboard you want to disable. Right-click on it to view and select more options in order to disable keyboard.
  4. Tap on the ‘disable’ option to disable the keyboard. If the disable option cannot be seen in the option, then click on the ‘uninstall’ option instead. Both the options will help you in disabling the laptop keyboard.
  5. After you perform the above step, you will now be asked for confirmation regarding whether you want to disable or uninstall your keyboard. Click on the yes option that appears in the pop-up text message. If the laptop needs a restart, then give it a restart and you will be successfully be able to disable keyboard.

Now, if you wish to enable it again, then all you need to do is simply go to the device manager again, perform the same step until you reach step 4. Click on enable or install this time and your keyboard will be re-enabled or installed again.

How to disable laptop keyboard permanently with the help of the group policy editor?

Sometimes you might find your laptop keyboard misbehaving and malfunctioning to the extent that it starts to disrupt your professional work. While the sanest idea would be to get it fixed, but sometimes nothing works so it becomes logical to disable laptop keyboard permanently rather than doing it temporarily. Therefore, let us learn through these easy steps about how we can disable laptop keyboard permanently using the group policy editor. 

  1. Open the Run Dialog Box on your laptop by pressing and holding the Windows button. Once done, then press R key and type: gpedit. msc on the screen which will open a local group policy editor.
  2. On the left panel, navigate to the Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation where you will be able to see the option of device installation restriction.
  3. On the right of the panel, you will see a lot of policies that allow Windows to function properly. Navigate to the option of “Prevent Installation of Devices not described by other policy settings”
  4. Now, click on policy setting or just right-click and tap on the  ‘Edit’ option to modify the policy.
  5. Click on the option of ‘Enable the policy’ in order to disable laptop keyboard permanently.
  6. Click on OK  and it will disable your laptop keyboard permanently. Repeat the above step again in order to avoid the reinstalling or restarting the drive at every start.

How To Disable Laptop Keyboard In Your MacBook?

If you have a macbook and you are looking for a way to disable laptop keyboard, then you are very lucky as in mac OS  we do not need a list of steps to disable laptop keyboard, instead, all you need is just a command for disabling laptop and your work  is done. Here is how you do it: 

  1. On your terminal interface, copy and past this command: sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBTopCase.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBTCKeyboard.kext/
  2. Now it will ask for a password from you, type it and your keyboard is enabled.
  3. Now if you ever wish to enable your keyboard again, then open terminal interface and again type this command: sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBTopCase.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBTCKeyboard.kext
