  1. Press and release the volume up key first
  2. Then, press and release the volume down

Here is how you hard reset iPad:

  1. If your iPad has the home button: hold the home button and the on and off button at the same time.
  2. If your iPad does not have a home button: press the volume down and then the volume up key quickly, and after that press and hold the on and off button
  3. The slider to switch off will appear on the screen, ignore that and continue holding the home buttons and the on and off button. The screen will disappear soon and go all black.
  4. After a few minutes, you will notice that the apple logo has appeared again. Let go of the hold and let the iPad start normally as it does.

Another way to hard reset iPad

Another way in which you can hard reset your iPad is by backing up everything before you go for a hard reset. Here is how you hard reset iPad:

  1. Go to settings
  2. Click on general and scroll down to the reset option.
  3. Tap on erase all contents and settings
  4. Then it will ask you to enter the password in order to restore everything to factory settings, enter the passcode.
  5. Enter the details of the apple id and password which will remove your account from the device.

This will take a few minutes until it is done and you have successfully hard reset iPad.
