WhatsApp has met with several controversies and explanations demanded by its users who feel threatened by the new Privacy policy that the application had released recently. Many users shifted from WhatsApp to other secured alternatives that do not compromise their privacy, such as – Signal and Telegram. In such transitions, one would like to import WhatsApp Chat History Into Telegram.
Even though WhatsApp had made it clear that private data would not be out in the open, the users did not seem to be satisfied as when it comes to privacy even a small doubt shouldn’t be entertained. While many who did leave and those who were reluctant to leave WhatsApp were bound by one big hindrance, that is, leaving all their chats, media, and conversations behind and moving on to start afresh.

How to Import WhatsApp Chat History into Telegram?
According to the messaging application Telegram, users from Line and WhatsApp can transfer their chats, documents, and media from both private and group chats. This can be done from both iOS as well as Android supporting devices.
The prerequisites to importing data from another application are:
The device must possess both the applications on it.
Both the platforms should be updated to the latest versions respectively.
Import Chat History in Android Devices
Follow these steps to export your conversations from WhatsApp on Android devices:
First, open the WhatsApp application on your Android device and click on the username of the chat or conversation that you want to export to Telegram.
On the top-right corner, you would find the dots arranged vertically. Click on it to open the drop-down menu. Scroll down and click on the ‘More’ option from the list of options.
Click on the ‘Export chats’ option.
Now, WhatsApp will ask you whether you want to export the conversations with or without the media. If you export with the media like videos, images, etc then it can be a couple of hundred MBs, depending on the size of your chat. You can choose to keep it lightweight, by choosing with the “Without Media” option.
Note: If you are exporting conversation for a longer time period then it would be recommended that you choose the ‘Without Media’ option as this would make the process quicker and occupy less space when compared to the one with media.
Once you choose the option, a share sheet or options listing the various applications to which you can export will appear on the bottom of the screen. Click on the Telegram application.
Now you would be taken into the Telegram platform where you need to choose the conversation into which all of these data would get imported. Make sure that you choose the same contact on both applications.
Tap on the ‘Import’ option from the pop-up message. This will initiate the importing process and a completion message will appear once it is finished. All the conversations from WhatsApp would now be updated in Telegram with the exact timestamps as it was in the previous application.
Import Chat History in iOS Devices
These steps would vary from those for Android devices. Follow these steps to import chat history from WhatsApp to Telegram on iPhones:
First, open the WhatsApp application on your iPhone and click on the chat or conversation that you want to export to Telegram. Make sure that you have both the applications installed and updated before beginning the importing process.
Tap on the contact’s name at the top to open the drop-down menu. Choose the ‘Export chat’ option from the list.
Similar to that in Android devices, you can choose to export the chats or conversations with or without the media included in it. For larger chats or in case of having a slower internet connection, exporting without media would be recommended.
After choosing the option, choose the Telegram application from the list of options in the share screen at the bottom of the screen. Open your iPhone to WhatsApp and navigate to a telegram chat that you want to export.
Now, select the same contact on Telegram into which these conversations and media would get imported.
Finally, to confirm the process, click on the ‘Import’ option on the pop-up message. You can abort the import by clicking on the ‘Cancel’ option.
Once the import process is completed, a message stating it would appear. To complete the procedure, click on the ‘Done’ option. All the conversations from WhatsApp would now be updated in Telegram with the exact timestamps as it was in the previous application.
Further Telegram clarifies and assures that its users that the conversations and media moved to the Telegram application will not occupy any extra space. The users can also optimize their storage space and have control over their cache size by selecting the ‘Data and Storage Usage’ tab in ‘Settings’.
