Since 2007, Apple has so far released over two dozens of iPhone models. And with rumours of more production and other releases hitting shelves soon, that number is only going to increase. So it becomes difficult to check the model number of your iPhone.

It wasn’t easy to actually figure out what iPhone you had prior to iOS 10.3. And even now it’s still pretty difficult. However, for iPhones running with iOS 10.2.1, you will require to have serial numbers on the back to know which iPhone you have.

You can easily learn the model number for any device from the iPhone 5 or later running iOS 10.3 is later. So if you are wondering how to find the model number of your iPhone or iPad, then we’ve got you covered. From the older iPhone through the latest iPhone, we’ve got all your worries covered. Let’s dive into the concept now!

Ways to find the model number of your iPhone or iPad

Here are some effective ways to find the model number of your iPhone or iPad

Older Method

  1. Firstly, you need to take out your iPhone
  2. Now, Flip your iPhone over and look for this on the back “Model AXXXX”
  3. This “AXXXX” is your model number
  4. Now, all you need to do is to match the numbers up.

PLEASE NOTE: This method doesn’t work on newer iPhones, check below for newer iPhones.

Newer Method

With the help of hardware or the software, you can find the model number of your iPhone or iPad. The fastest way of doing this is by using the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

  1. Firstly, on your iPhone or iPad open the “Settings” app.
  2. Then, move to the “General” section.
  3. Here you need to select the “About” option.
  4. Now, just tap on the number next to the “Model Number” option.
  5. Now you will see that the number will change to reveal the real model number of your iPhone or iPad.

If your iPhone hasn’t booted up, you can also check the model number from your device. If you are using an iPhone 8 or higher version, simply remove the SIM tray. Then you will find the model number etched on top in very small letters.

How to tell iPhone capacity?

If you need to look for the storage in your iPhone (8 GB, 128 GB, 512 GB), you can fetch this under settings of IOS. Go to General then About > Capacity. The capacity column will be a little less than what you already have. For example, a 128 GB iPhone will show 120 GB.

Why do you need to know the Model Number of Your iPhone?

Your model number is important information. It’s very informative when you sell your iPhone. Buyers want to know what they will be getting.

In addition, some models may not be compatible with a few of the features. For instance, the iPhone 11 does not support 3D touch or Touch ID. Or older models might not be able to use the new updates.

We believe that you have tracked the model number of your iPhone. As you can view that there are quite a few different iPhone model numbers in existence right now. And it doesn’t help that most Apple series are hard to tell apart. Still, if you employed the above methods you’ll know exactly what iPhone Model you’re using.
