With the rise in issues caused due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government is working rapidly to bring in new schemes and opportunities to reach out to people in need, especially for those in need of help related to coping with the illness caused by the Coronavirus and its prevention.
One such adaptive solution opted by our government is the MyGov Coronavirus helpdesk chatbot on WhatsApp that helps the users or seekers to find the right answer for all their doubts regarding Covid-19. This is powered by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
However, the introduction of this chatbot for public usage has been possible since last year but a new feature was recently added to it which helps the user to find the nearest vaccination centre which they can approach, current updates, professional advice, and techniques to improve immunity, success stories, etc.
In this article, we will discuss this initiative, and its features in detail, along with the steps to find the COVID-19 vaccine centre closest to you using WhatsApp.
Indian government along with the citizens are working towards rolling out the maximum number of vaccinations. They’re also reaching out to every one of the age group from 18 years and above. As we enter the third phase of vaccination, to bridge the gap between people who are eligible and are in search of vaccination and the centres with the required quantity of vaccination doses.
The MyGov chatbot is now equipped with the feature to find out the COVID-19 vaccine centre situated in the closest proximity to you. Along with the identification, it also guides the user to register for the vaccine, book appointments if required, etc from a single platform.
This platform is the ideal mode to reach out to people with genuine details and eliminate fake news hence spreading awareness about COVID-19 protocols. More than 1.7 crore users used it within the next few days of its launch. The recent launch to find the vaccine centres was announced as a tweet on Twitter by the MyGovIndia Twitter account.
Now that we understand the importance of this chatbot, let us check out some of the features that help and support people with the official data as the source. It is the government’s reliability when compared to information being shared by the other sources.
Every individual would be having a different query or doubt regarding the impact of Coronavirus, hence this chatbot provides a standard list of queries that almost covers every aspect of this pandemic starting from steps to improve immunity to connecting sources of help to the needy. The user can choose the number against the respective option and get its answer immediately.
The official contact number for emergencies, helpline number, and the official e-mail id to submit or send their queries are specified. Along with this, the link for downloading the Aarogya Setu App is also provided.
According to the user’s preference, one can change the communication language from English to Hindi, by typing ‘Hindi’. This helps those not familiar or comfortable with English. However, the same feature is not available for other regional languages but this won’t affect the process if you are finding the nearest vaccination centre.
Here are the detailed steps to use the chatbot and find the vaccination centre.
The first step is to save the official number of the MyGov Corona Helpdesk on your smartphone before getting started with reaching it out using WhatsApp. The helpdesk number is +91 9013151515. If you are using WhatsApp on your laptop or desktop, use this link instead of the phone number and continue to chat. Click here for the same.
Now, open the WhatsApp application on your smartphone and click on the saved contact to open the chat. Type either ‘Hi’ or ‘Namaste’ to get the reply with all the information from the chatbot. The first reply or message will consist of multiple options or queries from which the user can choose one at a time.
To find the nearest Covid-19 vaccination centre, one can either type the first option or simply type ‘1’ and then send ‘1’ once again. It is the same for asking any other query, that is, choose the respective number against the option to get an appropriate reply.
Now, the bot will ask for your Pincode, to know your location and search for the nearest options of centres. Make sure you type the Pincode of the location which is easily accessible to you.
The information about the centres, availability of slots for registration, and the eligibility criteria will be given in reply. Check out the different options and if you find a suitable option proceed with registration using the Cowin platform, created specifically for this purpose by the government.
The same is possible using the Arogya Setu App. If not, simply enter another pin code and get the details about the respective location. These details are constantly updated, hence it is recommended to keep a close watch and use the opportunity whenever available.
Followed by this chat, one can eventually try out the other options and links provided based upon the requirement. The topics include general awareness, safety precautions, etc. which helps the users to cope both mentally and physically.
