Plenty of cleaning solutions are available in the market nowadays. So, you might be confused, should you sanitize gadgets using a cleaning solution bought from the market or should you just make it at home. If you decide to get the cleaning solution from the market, then make sure you don’t buy a strong cleaning solution. Get cleaning solutions particularly prepared for screens and lenses and gadgets. Below we have explained how you can make a cleaning solution at home.

  • Take a spray bottle and fill it with one part of pure isopropyl alcohol and one part of distilled water (if you want you can even boil the water and cool it). Now mix them well.
  • Spray the mixture on a microfiber cloth so that you can use it to sanitize your gadgets.

Note: never spray the liquid directly on the device, as most gadgets don’t do well with water. Always spray the solution on a dry microfiber cloth, dampen it, and then use it.

How Should You Sanitize Gadgets?

Here are the some gadgets that you should sanitize and how to sanitize them:

Cleaning the phone

Most new phones nowadays come with a fingerprint-resistant coating or oleophobic coating on the top of the screen. Even though they are invisible to the naked eyes, these coatings provide finger smudge resistance to your smartphone display keeping the finger grease at bay.

However, cleaning your smartphone screens with regular cleaning solutions could wear off the coating. Hence, manufacturers generally recommend wiping the screen using a barely textured microfiber cloth lightly damped in distilled water. Getting rid of dust and germs from the edges and in between buttons is the hard part. You can use cotton swabs to clean the crevices. If you own an iPhone or iPad do not wipe them with sanitizers as it might end up damaging the device. The alcohol present in the sanitizer might damage the special self-cleaning oleophobic coatings your iPhone or iPad comes with.

Cleaning your laptop and tablet

One of the devices that are used most probably after your phone would be a laptop or tablet. As they are portable, they get dirty a lot and attract a lot of dust and germs. To clean your laptop or tablet damp the microfibre cloth in the cleaning solution lightly. Now, clean all the plastic and metal surfaces. Wipe the keyboard. Turn the laptop upside down to get rid of dust and tiny food particles stuck in between the keyboard keys. To clean the LCD screen, you can use a screen cleaner with a microfiber cloth. For touch screens, you can use lens cleaner applied to a microfiber cloth. To clean the crevices, like the edge of the screen and the power button, use a cotton swab.

Cleaning your desktop

Clean your desktop screen with a soft cloth damped with distilled water or the cleaning solution. In case, you find it difficult to remove any fingerprints present on the screen, then you can use lens cleaner or spectacles cleaner. Wipe the plastic parts of the computer and the CPU with a soft cloth damped in a cleaning mixture.

By now, you probably might have got the habit of eating over your keyboard, and food crumbs might have made their way through the keyboard keys. Clean the keyboard by shaking it and turning it upside down so that if any food particle is present it comes off. Then, get a damp cloth with a cleaning solution and clean the keys. Use a cotton swab to clean inside the crevices and the gap between each key. We do suggest you do a spot test on any key to test whether the cleaning solution removes any lettering from the keys or not. If they do, then clean the keyboard just by damping the cloth with distilled water.

Cleaning the remotes, mouse, and gaming consoles

Your mouse spends most of its time moving around your desk and it can lead to accumulating a lot of dirt, dust, and germs. Use the alcohol cleaning solution on a cotton swab and run it over the feet of the mouse. Through any cracks, spaces, or services run a cotton swab dipped in the cleaning solution. To clean the body and the cord of the mouse use a cloth damped in the cleaning solution. The remote, gaming consoles and controllers can be cleaned with a damp cloth dipped with the cleaning solution to remove the grease and dirt from them. Do not spray the cleaning solution directly on the gadgets, as the liquid can pass through the services and damage the gadget.
